My family and I have been on the Kenyan coast for three months, due to my husband's work. We will be here for three more. We opted not to get a car while here and have been relying on our feet, tuk-tuks and the occassional taxi. We live close to stores, so it is easy to walk. I wish it was so easy to do this back home in Michigan! We live on the outskirts of Haslett, have three kids with active schedules and no options for public transport. Short of selling our house and finding a home in a walkable community, I am reduced to my large piece of heavy machinery to get us from here to there and everywhere. Granted, I try to be efficient, but it still feels heavy. Best of luck on your journey! (I grew up in NJ near NYC and didn't get a license until I was 24! Those were the days!) I agree that the people of Michigan should enjoy outdoor events that celebrate each season, and Winter is one of them. (I think I saw Van Der Beek around too...)
