Follow up question for the fine folks at LC – Know a local store that sells wool clothing? I’d optimally like to outfit my family with warm wooly stuff this season, and all I can think of is Moosejaw in EL. Not that I don’t like them, but there has to be a family owned place, right?

As a fellow Eastsider here, I definitely understand the neighborly challenges. I came here for graduate school a year ago and only this year did I meet people.

Your post really got me thinking. I have been in my apartment for about six months now. There are only six units in my entire building. I think that I would only recognize two people that live there if I saw them on the street. That is terrible! I am challenging myself to get to know the people that I share a building with. We don’t have to become the best of friends, but we live in such a friendly part of a big city, we should at least be acting like neighbors! Great inspiration

I have definitely checked out the Farmer’s Market all summer, but will have to check out the Neighborhood Center for sure!

Welcome to the Eastside, Shannon! We may be trendy, but we’re also awesome.

If you’re interested in meeting some cool folks, and haven’t checked out the Allen Neighborhood Center on Allen St. and Kalamazoo, they are fantastical. They host the Allen Street Farmer’s Market, the Hunter Park GardenHouse (with a CSA for area residents), Urbandale Farm, and the Tuesday Bread Basket. Interesting neighbors and, if you’re early, some fantastic Panera breads to take home.

Of course, there’s lots of other great stuff as well, but I’m sure you’ll be able to find that on your own.

I spent a year on crutches following a particularly distressing sledding accident, breaking both bones and having a plate installed. It’s an interesting perspective you share, because I think that up to this point, I had no idea how difficult things were going to be daily. What a pain bathing was!

After living here for a year, I can understand the sentiment in this post. Coming from a slew of other Michigan cities, Lansing has a hometown feel like no other for me. And it’s the exact same reasons mentioned above-the good businesses and good people.

I loved this post. I think it’s really refreshing to see someone who is passionate about the place that they live… just imagine if everyone truly appreciated where they are living, we’d all be trying to make our homes an even better place

I will say, I am falling in love with Chicago a little bit more each and every time I stumble across something new (a park, a coffee shop, a walking trail) but I think my heart will always truly belong to the mitten!

I love to see empowered women doing wonderful thing while having fun! What a great read about all of the good you are doing. I have not YET been to a game/meet but plan to! I see what you are saying Bernie, as the evening went on it started getting a little congested. It is probably difficult for the organizers to predict how big this event gets year by year.
